Meet Brian: Information Security Officer. Fan of dogs, motorcycles, gardening, and wine — in no particular order.
1. What brought you to Wave? There was a point in my life where I wanted some job stability, so I decided to work somewhere pretty corporate. REGRET. Wave came along and saved me. Back then (5 years ago) it was a very small group of people that wanted to do some very big things. Opportunity and challenge - I grabbed on and it's been a crazy ride ever since. It's like that scene from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - when a spaceman comes along and asks if you want to go for a ride in a rocketship, you say yes. You prepare for adventure, and you say yes.
2. What’s the best part of your job? Without a doubt, it's the customers - knowing I'm making a difference. They might not be asking for the things that I'm doing, they don't see me doing them, but I'm there (in the shadows?) keeping their data safe. I'm pretty much Batman.
3. What is something you’ve learned since joining Wave? I've learned how to be a duck. Have you ever seen a duck floating on a pond? Looks pretty peaceful. Meanwhile, under the water, things are churning like crazy. Wave is constantly changing (improving), I wear many hats, and the world of security can be pretty hectic. Being able to keep calm, think rationally, and communicate well in the midst of occasional chaos is critical to my success here and is pretty helpful outside of Wave too.
4. What would you tell someone interested in joining the team? While absolutely true, any answer to this question that uses the words "challenge and excellence" sounds cliche to me. That's not me, so this is a little hard to answer...I've been on this ride for a long time now. I've seen the ups and downs over the years and I can honestly say that now is the time to join Wave. Never before have I see such a complete commitment to the growth and improvement of every aspect of Wave. The teams have really clicked, the culture has never been better, and the product itself is better than ever. The momentum is building and if you want to be a part of it, jump on now, because it isn't going to stop and wait for you.
Composed of some of the smartest minds in North America —more than 100 and counting — the Wave team is innovative, diverse, driven, and incredibly talented. They're also some of the nicest, most interesting, creative, and inspiring people around.
